The
Turkish Culture is very different from in
England. One of the first things you will
hear are the prayers across the resort at
5am and 5pm (they're not loud enough to
wake you up, we were still out clubbing
at that time - ahem). Turkey is
predominantly a Muslim country, but
they're very modern in their ways, and
yes, in the Resort pretty much all the
locals join in the drinking! It goes
without saying though, PLEASE ensure that
you respect the locals and their
traditions.
It's also not
unusual to see Turkish men or Turkish
lads walking arm in arm, or kissing on
the cheek. This is a sign of
friendliness, much like a handshake in
the UK. It doesn't necessarily mean that
they are gay - many are married. In some
bars they will wind you up, but just
laugh it off. We did find in quite a few
of the bars a few of the bar lads were
bisexual. If you are a lad and get
"hit on" by someone, politely
decline and that will be then end of it.
The most likely question you'll get asked
is "Jiggy Jiggy". If that's
your thing however, go for it!
On that note, also
making the "OK" sign with your
finger and thumb in Turkey is a no-no.
Where as here it means "that's fine,
ok" etc.... over there it means
you're calling someone homosexual, in a
derogatory fashion. So be careful. If you
do it by accident though, most of the
locals realise that you're English, and
know what it means in the UK so it's not
that much of an issue.
